We offer a full continuum of services from acute, inpatient rehabilitation to outpatient rehabilitation.
Our therapist will assess the patient through the Brunnstrom Approach, developed by Signe Brunnstrom, an occupational and physical therapist from Sweden. This approach sets out a sequence of seven stages of recovery from hemiplegia after a stroke, and breaks down how motor control can be restored throughout the body. Normally, muscle movement is a result of a synergy or coordination between the brain and the body. After a stroke, these synergy patterns become abnormal, leading to atypical muscle movements. With the Brunnstrom Approach, instead of inhibiting these atypical muscle movements, we can teach the patient how to use the abnormal synergy patterns to their advantage, therefore dramatically improving voluntary muscle movement after suffering a stroke.
